The Thesis Chronicle
I had to do this, you know...I haven’t been able to post anything since late June down to one obvious reason: Thesis. It’s not that I didn’t have any spare time. I do. In fact, I‘d virtually all the time in the world to set aside, just to keep up with my commitment to update this blog – at least on a monthly basis. But the nature of working on a major assignment such as thesis had kept me reluctant and edgy from doing anything else that seemed “trivial” at the moment; even when I didn’t do anything at all – including working on my thesis.
And the truth of the matter is, it’s not until mid-August that I began working on my thesis. Yes, the procrastinator in me had successfully distorted my mind. Besides, honestly, it‘s freakin hard for me to actually work on something when the remaining time’s still far-off. It’s not.. umm.. "challenging" in a way. But anyway, I’d to bear the consequences of having such an attitude. I could hardly sleep these past couple of weeks to finish my thesis +_+
Finally, my thesis draft!! My baby!!Now on to the content. As you may observe from my profile page, my thesis is titled: “Analysis of Major Due Diligence Determinants to Attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) on Toll-Road Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Projects”. Ok, it may sound long and boring and complicated and stuff, but I can’t complaint bout it, can I? I’m stuck with PPP cos it’s a relatively new and developing concept in Indonesia (which I like), and our government can’t quite fund the infrastructure projects with their oh-so-limited budget. Besides, I had my internship with the Directorate of PPP in Bappenas, so all things seem to lead me to this point. And as for FDI, well, just say it's the least that I can do to make the case for being an International Business student.
Well, two weeks of uphill struggle, loads of multivitamins, less DVDs and games, and 150++ pages of writing later, I’ve got my brain drained and my body all tired out. Now my thesis is done, but I’ve got to save the euphoria for later cause my final thesis defense is scheduled for next week. OMG!! Next week!! And now it’s Thursday already!! Cut me some slack… *sob sob* I just keep on imagining that once this whole things are over, I’ll be free as a bird!! Hohooo…
Wish me luck for my defense, okay? ^__^

On Internship @ Bappenas
Yepp,, attention: my long sweet *boooring* holiday season has officially ended,, *sob sob* T_T
And in its place, the awfully draining episode of my life namely internship has already waited right before me,, all set to eat my sanity alive,, >_<
Seriously,, gimme a break!! Only last week, I was still yearning for my internship period at Bappenas (the National Development Planning Agency) to get underway ASAP. But now, as my internship reaches its second week, I’ve already felt the anxiety and disorientation at the office. Every so often, I got myself in a situation where I totally drew a blank on the baffling technical details that my supervisor told me regarding the project that I had to deal with. I’m also forced to jog my memory about some elaborate subjects (I have long forgotten :P) such as finance, accounting, investment, and even business law right away. Nevertheless, I’m really grateful to have my internship with Bappenas since I get to deal with some real-life national infrastructure projects along with its complexities and intricacies, which is very challenging and essential (I suppose!!) for my future career (though kinda frustrating at first). At the moment, I’m involved with the Bandung Water Supply Concession Project under Public Private Partnership (PPP) framework and am currently preparing the financial model of the project before proceeding into the risk assessment. The good news is, so far, the time frame isn’t too hectic and demanding, and the working environment is so ‘peaceful’ (which I fear, in time, could lead to boredom >o<).
For this early period of my internship, even though my official post is supposed to be at the Bappenas office in Menteng, Central Jakarta (next to the Sunda Kelapa Mosque), but my work place is not with the agency. At least yet. Instead, I’m assigned to do my internship at Wisma Bakrie 2 in Kuningan, where the Secretariat for the National Committee for the Acceleration of Infrastructure Provision (KKPPI) and the ADB-Bappenas Affiliation Representative are located. And since the twenty-story building is located alongside the busy Rasuna Said Street, I’m forced to face the harsh reality of life in Jakarta for commuters: the never-ending story of rush hour and air pollution. I have to take two busses to reach the place from my house in Serpong, Tangerang, which normally takes about 2 hours, and before I reach the office, I would already be dog-tired. I’m seriously considering to find a “kos” or rent a house nearby ASAP with my friends who’re also having their internship within the vicinity. Well, hopefully I could complete my internship period here smoothly, so that I could finish my thesis – thus my undergraduate study at President University – straight away *Amen to thaaathh!!! ^_^*
Workaholic? No thanks...

Internship: updated and some other stuffs,,
It’s January 6 already, yet I’m still somewhat clueless about my internship. It’s not that I haven’t got the place for my internship, cause I’ve finally got the green light from Bappenas – the National Development Planning Agency – to be an intern there *yippee*. Rather, it’s the fact that I’ve yet gone to the place that makes me anxious. What’s it gonna be like? How’s the working atmosphere? What’s my actual job description? There’re simply dozens of questions left unanswered thus far that I’d kill to know the answers. Hopefully, as I come to the place for the first time tomorrow, I could finally settle all my curiosity and begin my internship period there favorably. In any case, the good thing is: I’m already on the right track – so to speak – because Bappenas is really the place to go for a business student. What's more, particularly in the Directorate of Public Infrastructure Institutional Development that I’m gonna go into, there’s an ongoing program called Public Private Partnership (P3) that is very much related with my major, International Business (IB). In other words, I could (even) use the program as the source and basis for my thesis, and I intend to do so. With the clock seemingly ticking faster than ever, I reckon having an early start for my thesis as an excellent move – if I could actually pull it off ^__^; Fact: I don’t have a good track record for that.
Well, the thing is, I just think that I’ve had enough holiday, cause I’m all drained of being in a fairly droning daily life at home and not doing something productive. Well, it’d be way too naïve to say that I’m not enjoying my holiday, especially given the fact that I’m a naturally lazy, sluggish person *evil grin*. But fortunately I DO aware of my adverse disposition (or do I not? :P) and I DO believe that I could actually overcome such indolence and do something prolific if the situation is conducive and compelling – and holiday’s obviously a far cry from such a condition. At least back then in the ordinary ‘academic-wannabe’ campus life, I always (tried to) keep myself updated on the recent global political economics condition. I know it sounds tedious and complex, but somehow, I find it interesting to identify with what’s happening elsewhere in the world and it helps me a lot as an IB student, especially in class. But now during holiday, I’m more into updating myself with the latest episode of American TV series such as Grey’s Anatomy, Prison Break, Heroes, Lost, 24, Friday Night’s Lights, and the like; most of which are currently suspended (or forced to end in the mid-season) due to the writers’ strike. In turn, that leaves me with pretty much nothing interesting to do (and watch). So I turn my attention to the news, and guess what, I suddenly find my new toys!! ^__^ I’ll tell you more about my views on the latest happenings throughout the globe later. That's a promise. Hopefully, tomorrow’s gonna be all different, going to Bappenas and all!! :D
Hoaaaaaheemmm...

Internship, 2007, and Resolution

Now that 2007 is just minutes away from its end, I’d like to reflect a bit on my life so far. Well, at this point in time, there’s not much to say about my present being since it’s holiday and all, so I pretty much revolving around the same routines every day. It’s any between surfing my social-networking accounts (friendster and facebook), blogging, going to Joe’s for a good Winning Eleven time with my friends, watching movies in nearby 21 theater or simply downloading TV-series torrents and youtube vids off the internet, or sometimes wandering around malls for window-shopping. But there’s always this major concern that has successfully preoccupied me during holiday that I just simply can’t get it off my head: my Internship placement.
Well, it’s only some time ago that I came to realize that once January kicks off, I’d no longer deserve my peaceful holiday (what? come again…?!!) since the eighth semester will officially commence and that I should’ve started my anticipated internship by then. Oh, and by “then”, I mean the day after tomorrow (1/2)…!! But that’s just the tip of the iceberg I’d say cause the real problem is: I can’t even see the damn iceberg!! What I’m saying is that, I don’t even know yet where I’d go for my internship, and the state of being in the dark really frustrates me. Big time. Even my laid-back (although determined) dorm roommate, Aldo, has already got a well-paid job at Mega Bank (in case you’re wondering: yes, an actual job, not an internship), and most of my friends have already gotten their internship placements in various companies and institutions in the Greater Jakarta. This condition has pretty much put me in a rather uncomfy disposition and I really need to put an end to this. But wait, I DON’T have the privilege to decide such bargain!! I’m in the “now waiting” mode now!!
So far, there’re two major prospects that are currently “up in the air” for my internship placement. The first of which comes from a major multinational company in a place far away from here: Nestlé Lampung. I just learned couple of hours ago that their HR has already sent me an e-mail (finally) notifying that I should send an immediate reply regarding my internship schedules so that I could start my internship right away. But here’s the tight corner: only several days ago, my father introduced me to a friend of his who is currently working on a Public Private Partnership (P3) program with the National Development Agency (BAPPENAS) and (most likely) could provide me an internship placement under the agency. What really gets into me is that the program is very much related to my major, International Business. Thus, there’s a good chance that I might use the program as my topic for thesis. However, I wouldn’t know whether I actually get the placement or not until January 2nd 2008, when offices return for business. For the time being, I just cross my fingers and pray to God for the best. To finish off, I’d like to shout out a HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008 for all of you!! Wish y’all the best this coming year. With any luck, may we all get what we want this year ahead; just don’t expect too much ^_^; My resolution for 2008? Hmm… Successful internship period, perfect thesis, outstanding graduation (wish me luck!!), Post-graduate scholarship abroad (OMG, please please!!), and last but not least: Love of my Life… (where are you?? I’m one desperate “jomblo”!! :P)
Happy New Year,

Moments of 2007
2007 is one of the most challenging years in my life. There's no way that I'm gonna forget all the best and worst moments of the year, and I'm not planning to do so. Throughout the year, despite my lack of commitment in posting my blogs, I always keep record of my journey and experiences through my phone's 3.2-MP camera. Some of the best moments can be seen below. Credit goes to slide.com for the wonderful, extremely user-friendly interface of the flash image slideshow. Enjoy! Labels: Life, Reflection

What about me?!
Earlier this morning, I woke up with an edgy feeling for no clear reason whatsoever. Well, to be honest, things may have gotten somewhat disorderly the last few weeks, but somehow I didn’t see those as the very r
eason to explain my unsettled mood. Rather, I feel like there’s this uneasy feeling that I just can’t explain, and I’d kill to know why. There’s only one thing I knew for sure: my body’s all stiffed and sore because of last evening’s futsal, and I had to limp to wander around thanks to some minor injuries in my feet. It sucks. However, turns out it didn’t take me ages to figure out the very reason behind such discomfort.
Perhaps the most palpable answer has a lot to do with the fact that it’s December 27th already, yet I haven’t found a place for my second internship, which is scheduled to start by the beginning of next year. And January is drawing closer at an even hasty rate than ever before. My bad. What can I say? It’s always been like this: final-hour regret all thanks to my indolence or rather, reluctance to start finding the place for internship since months ago. But thank God there’s hope in Nestlé Lampung, which may be far-off but I’m sure gonna worth it – IF, I get accepted. Just cross your fingers for me ok?! ^__^;
